Awning
Opens outward from the bottom
Hinged at the top, with the bottom opening outward. Often combined with fixed glass or used in a wider, shorter opening.
Picture / fixed
Does not open
Fixed glass for a view and daylight. Pair it with an opening window when the room also needs ventilation.
Hung
Slides vertically
Single-hung windows have a moving lower sash. Double-hung windows allow both upper and lower sashes to move.
Slider
Slides horizontally
One or more panels slide sideways on a track. A useful option where an outward-opening window would get in the way.
